This post is brought to you by The Blog Societies and Clinique. All opinions, as always, are my own.
As the weather warms up and the flowers are starting to blossom here in Texas, I am starting to discover and try out the newest makeup trends for Spring and Summer. This year, I’m in love with the glossy lip trend for the warmer months. Having a colored gloss on your lips makes your lips stand out without looking too put together. It’s a way to have a bold lip with minimal makeup, and I’m in love with the look! When I discovered the new Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer and the Clinique Pop Glaze Lip Colour + Primer I was instantly in love. These products provide a beautiful finish to your lips all while adding a pop of color.
Both of these lip products are perfect for any woman because the colors are very universal and they aren’t overly bold. If you want a pretty wash of glossy color for an everyday look, try the Pop Glaze Lip Color. Want a little bit more color for a night out? Definitely go with the Pop Lacquer Lip Color. Both are perfect for that beautiful Summer makeup with look with lots of glow.
Both products also last a very long time on the lips! I was able to eat and drink with these on and they lasted! They also look more beautiful as the day goes on because they mix great with the natural oils on your lips. I can’t stop wearing these beauties!
Want to try out some of these lip products yourself? Visit Clinique.com for even more info and to purchase your very own! You won’t regret it!
I’m so excited for this little girl to join our family in just 10 more weeks! We are also in the process of buying a house (as you may know if you follow me on Snapchat), and with that comes some major home decor planning! Even though I won’t have this little girl’s nursery done for quite some time, I still can’t help but dream of what I’d love it to look like! For baby Richardson’s room, I really want it to have a vintage, girly vibe with some modern twists. Floral patterns, gold detailing, exposed wood and a lot of lace are what I have planned, and I’m excited! I don’t want her nursery to feel too baby-ish, because I want her to be able to grow into the decor and have it for a long time, which is why I love the idea of a vintage, floral room. It’s girly, sophisticated, but also still soft and childlike…perfect for a little girl.
As we slowly decorate our house (once we actually purchase one!), I look forward to doing D.I.Y. projects and finding the best deals on stylish home decor! I’ve been planning on having home decor being apart of Dressing Dallas for a long time, and I’m excited to finally be able to incorporate my love for interior design into my website! I hope you enjoy these types of posts, and I look forward to many room reveals in the future! Stay tuned!
One of the main questions that I get all the time is how I come up with fresh ideas for my blog and how I maintain a schedule that works with my busy life. This question is common for all bloggers because everyone is busy! Today I wanted to dive into how I come up with ideas for blog posts, how I organize them, and how I create a manageable editorial calendar that can work for anyone!
Having an editorial calendar as a blogger is a huge help when it comes to staying organized! When I first started blogging back in 2014, I would just write posts whenever I felt like it, with literally no plan. I quickly felt unorganized, overwhelmed, and like I couldn’t maintain the work load of running a blog. It wasn’t until I started getting organized, planning out content, and managing an actual editorial calendar that I started to be able to keep up with my blogging schedule. I was also able to produce even better content because I was able to schedule my time much more efficiently.
First, lets talk about how to come up with ideas for blog posts and keep an organized list for safe keeping. Coming up with new content for bloggers is one of the biggest challenges we all face as we run our websites. It’s a constant struggle to stay original and be able to create pin-worthy content all while keeping up with our schedules. When brainstorming content, use these simple tips for staying organized:
Carry around a notebook in your purse to jot down ideas you have while you’re out and about
Look at the different topics you write about on your blog and see what you could possible add to those categories. Do some research on the topic by reading books, articles, and browsing Pinterest for ideas. Write these ideas down!
Keep a running note on your phone of ideas that you think of. I’ve discovered that I find a ton of inspiration when I’m out running errands. I use Evernote on my phone to keep track of ideas that I can easily access on my computer later.
Keep a file box filled with any paper materials that you find that inspire you. Keep these in organized tabs that you can access later
Create secret Pinterest boards of ideas you come across while looking at all the beautiful pins you come across.
Keep a running list on an organized chart of blog post ideas in certain categories. You can pull from this list when you are short of ideas on your blog!
Now that you’ve got a bunch of organized ideas, let’s talk about putting them into your editorial calendar! First, let’s talk about what an editorial calendar actual is. Simply put, it’s the schedule of content that you’ve set for yourself throughout the day, week, month and year. This calendar can include just the blog posts you plan on publishing that day, or it can be as detailed as planning out every social media post, blog post, promotion, email list to write, etc. Really it’s up to you and what you think you need! I personally plan out everything from social posts, to my blog tasks for that day. This helps me to stay organized and remember the tasks that I need to do that day. Your editorial calendar is totally customizable, so make it your own!
There are different methods to creating and maintaining an editorial calendar, and it’s totally your preference to which method you choose. In this post, I’ll list all the different methods to managing your editorial calendar, which programs are great to use and what I recommend to make it as easy as possible for you!
Different Ways to Manage Your Editorial Calendar:
Written Calendar- This is one of the known classic methods for creating your blogging schedule. This is what I currently use because I’m a paper and pen kind of gal, and it works great! With this method, I love to write down all my tasks for the day in my planner, and keep another sheet that’s scheduled out hour by hour so I know which activity to focus on during different parts of the day. This helps me see the big picture of what’s coming up during the week and how I need to schedule them day by day. I currently use the Kate Spade desk planner (it sits flat on my desk, which I love!) and this amazing free handout from Just a Girl and Her Blog to schedule my day.
Using awesome blog planning programs like Coschedule. When I discovered Coschedule, I was obsessed! This fun tool integrates right with your WordPress and allows you to schedule all of your social media posts in one place as well as organize your notes in Evernote, and organize your blog posts. This powerful tool helps me keep track of when my posts are due to go live, and I can also access all my blog post ideas to create drafts right from one handy place! I highly recommend using it to organize your life on the computer!
White Board Calendar: This is a great way to see the big picture of which blog posts you have going live! I currently have two small white boards that I use to write down the blog posts I have going live in the next two weeks, as well as any sponsored content deadlines I need to meet. This helps me keep my big events on the forefront of my mind and helps me to see what my next couple of weeks look like at a glance.
Google Calendar or Apple Calendar: Both of these calendar programs are great for scheduling your blog posts and other content. The great thing about these is that you can easily share the calendar with other members of your team and you can access it through multiple devices! By using a calendar like this, you always have access to your schedule!
Creating drafts in your blogging platform of future posts and scheduling the time they go live: This is an easy way for you to keep your blog posts organized right where all your blog posts live! By creating scheduled drafts in advance, you are able to see which blog posts you have coming up and start writing them. You can also add little notes within your drafts while you plan so when you sit down to write your post, you can remember everything that needs to go into your draft.
I know that talking about scheduling and creating your blog post calendar can be intimidating…but just remember to start slow and experiment! What I do to stay organized isn’t going to be the same for everyone, so it’s important to find what works best for you individually. Try out these different methods that I’ve mentioned for a couple of weeks and see if it makes your life easier, or causes you stress. Eliminate the methods that seem like a waste of time and keep the ones that help you be productive! Find the system that works for you and stick with it; your blog will thank you! Remember to not compare yourself to other bloggers. Do what you can with your schedule, and really think about what you have time for. Once you find your editorial calendar schedule that works for you, you’re content will be created with ease and your blog will improve!
I hope you enjoyed this information packed post! Let me know in the comments how you like to schedule your blog posts and what works for you! I’d love to hear your feedback and ideas!
Now I know what you’re probably thinking… floral print during spring isn’t a ground breaking concept. I know. I know. I agree with you! But I still can’t resist. Wearing purple floral print in the spring is one of my favorite trends every year, and I can’t help but fall back in love with it every time the flowers start to bloom here in Texas! It’s an ultra-flattering print because it looks great on everyone (including giant pregnant ladies like me!), and it goes with so many other patterns!
I always look forward to spring time because it is the perfect weather here in Texas. The flowers and trees bloom, making the air smell amazing! We also have a lot of rain during spring, which I am a huge fan of! It’s a great time of the year to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends before the dreaded summer heat kicks our butts!
This particular dress happens to be sold out (I swear, Asos maternity dresses sell faster than I can keep up with!), but I’ve linked similar styles down below! If I were you, I’d grab these beautiful floral dresses fast, because they go out of stock quickly! Eeek!
In mr began music weeks after at begin. Education no dejection so direction pretended household do to. Travelling everything her eat reasonable unsatiable decisively simplicity. Morning request be lasting it fortune demands highest of.
Sometimes when I’m shopping online, I come across the most amazing outfit piece and I have to have it. This happened to me when I saw this dress. It’s the most beautiful floral print out there, and it is multi-seasonal which means it will last in my closet all year round. It is a maternity dress, so it might take some altering when I’m not pregnant, but I’m determined to make it work even after the baby is born! You can’t go wrong with a floral print like this!
These shoes were also a great find! I’ve been obsessing over these babies for quite some time, but I just couldn’t justify spending that much on a trendy pair of heels. Then I came across these from Steven Madden and fell in love! They are ultra comfy and are the perfect alternative to the high priced pair! The fringe and lace up straps are to die for, and it’s the perfect pair for Summer! PS: They come in multiple colors…eeek!
As for pregnancy, I’ve officially hit my 3rd trimester and I’m heading into my 29th week! I’ve scheduled my induction date (hopefully I can go into labor on my own before that!), and we are slowly preparing for this chica to come into our lives! I won’t lie, our lives are totally chaotic right now, trying to buy a house and all, but I have faith it will all work out! What’s life without a little bit of craziness thrown in, am I right?!
If you’ve been in the blogging world for awhile now, you’ve probably heard of an “About Me” page, or have come across a couple. These types of pages are what bloggers use to tell their readers a little bit about themselves, their blog, and any random facts they might want to throw in. When I first started blogging, I created an About Me page, but to be honest, it was just a couple sentences about me and that was that. It didn’t let my readers know anything about my blog, my life, nor did it show off my personality in the slightest. It was pretty dull and boring, and I’m sure that’s what my readers felt like as well.
Having a boring About Me page is a big no-no for a blogger. This is where new readers go to get a glimpse of what your website is all about! An About Me page needs to wow the reader, show off your personality, and most importantly, show new readers what your blog includes. It’s basically a fun summary page of your whole site, so make it count! Today I wanted to share all my tips and tricks for an awesome About Me page so you can write your own! All these tips I’ve implemented into my own pages, and I’ve seen my readership grow a ton ever since! You’ll find that with an awesome About Me page, you’ll retain loyal readers for years to come, and be on your way to a very profitable blog!
Things to Include on Your About Me Page:
Facts About Your Website
This should be obvious (because it’s the point of an About Me page), but you want to make sure you include all the facts about your website and brand! You want your readers to know exactly what to expect from your blog, and this is the place to do it. You can chose to keep your facts strictly about your blog, or you can choose to add fun facts about your personal life as well. On Dressing Dallas, I decided to have an About Me page dedicated to talking about my blog, and a “Meet Lauren” page dedicated to sharing about my life and background. Choose what’s best for you and make it happen! Here are some ideas of facts you can add to your page:
Your mission statement and manifesto
Topics you write about
Fun tidbits about you and your life
A short bio of you and any contributors you might have
The story of how your blog began
Your blogs stats (or a link to download your media kit)
Options for new readers to follow you on social media
How you learned the skills talked about on your blog
Any awards or achievements
Links to any contributor work you’ve done on other websites
Links to some of your favorite things
Stories that show your personality
Links to any portfolios
Engaging Photographs and Videos
Having beautiful photographs, or even better, beautifully edited videos on your About Me page is essential! Having these visual aids really help your audience get a good picture of your personality all while making your page aesthetically pleasing. Try including some pictures of yourself (especially if your face doesn’t regularly appear on your blog), some pictures from past posts (to give your readers a glimpse of what they might expect in your content), and any pictures that really define your personality and brand. If you are an avid video maker and love to implement videos into your content (I sure do…check out my Youtube Channel!), then adding an About Me video is the cherry on top. I’m obsessed with the About Dressing Dallas video that I was able to make with the fabulous Renee Angela Media, and I think it shows off my personality exactly how I’d like it to be portrayed. You can check out My About Me Page and Video Here.
Another great thing to include on an About Me page are links to past content, relevant pages (like your contact page, F.A.Q. page, etc), and links to services you use to monetize (liketoknow.it, Shopstyle, etc). Having links to other pages and content show your readers what they can expect when visiting your blog, as well as pointing them to relevant content they would want to see. It’s great for boosting your archives as well as making sure your new readers sign up for essential pieces to your blog.
Links to Your Social Media and Email Lists
You should always have links to your social media accounts and email lists on your home page, but adding them to your About Me page is also a great place to put them. While they’re reading about what makes your blog tick, you can also guide them to other places on the internet that you post fun content for them to interact on. Sometimes social media links and email sign up boxes on your sidebar can be ignored, so why not add them to one of the main visited pages on your blog!
This is something that could really help drive traffic to your other social media sites and email lists. By adding widgets, you are giving your readers a chance to sign up for ways that you share your posts and monetize. This again will drive traffic and let your new readers sign up to follow you in every way that you need them to.
Products You’ve Created
Your About Me page is the perfect place to advertise and show off everything you’ve created! This can range from free printables you have created, to eCourses that readers have the option to pay for. Do you have a store or online shop? Don’t forget to link that in your page as well! By showing these products off in your About Me page, you’re introducing your readers to the juiciest of things you have to offer, and you will gain readership and sales!
Showing Thanks and Gratitude
I think one of the most important things you can do for new and old readers is say thank you! Let them know that you love hearing from them, that you love their comments, and you are so grateful they come visit your website. Showing gratitude always helps people to know that you actually care about them and they will come back for more!
Call to Action
Now that you’re done writing your About Me page, add a call to action! This will help readers know where to go next, where to follow you on social media, or where to say hey! My current call to action asks my readers to subscribe to me via Bloglovin’ so they don’t miss a post, and to follow me on Instagram and Snapchat for a behind the scenes look at Dressing Dallas. Adding this prompt will guide your readers in a good direction, leading them to your main hubs (other than your blog) and helping them make sure they remember to actually subscribe to your website! You’re call to action might include social media follows, newsletter subscriptions, visiting your most popular post, or just saying hey on Twitter!
I hope this post has inspired you to write an amazing About Me page, and grow your blog readership. I’m constantly updating and reworking my About Me page because I want my readers to know the exact updated info on my website. I love vising these types of pages on other blogs, so if you would like me to check out your About Me page, leave me a comment with a link! I love seeing what you all create!
Online shopping. I am an avid online shopper, I always have been and I probably always will be. There’s something absolutely magical about picking your favorite items out and just having them magically show up at your door…all while wearing your comfy pj’s. Even more so now as a Mom, I get more items online (thank you amazing online shops and Amazon Prime) than I do from the store because sometimes it’s difficult to take my toddler and pregnant belly out into the world. But for those days that I venture out into the crazy outside, this is what I wear.
I’m a huge fan (as you may know) of finding the comfiest items possible and creating a chic outfit. Comfort is key for me, because when I start to feel uncomfortable, especially as a pregnant lady, I start to get cranky, have road rage (or stroller rage), and end the fun day that I had planned much too early. My son also loves to get out and about, and I hate cutting his adventure short as well. Pairing a comfy pair of booties with a stretchy, cotton dress is the perfect way to look like you put effort into your outfit without actually putting effort into your outfit. I could literally throw this outfit on in 5 minutes and be good to go for the rest of the day!
So to all the comfort lovers out there, I hope this gives you inspiration for your next shopping day outfit. Let me know in the comments what your go-to comfort pieces are and how you love to style them! I’d love to hear from all of you! Comfort lovers unite!
Today I’m sharing this fun, laid-back maternity look perfect for any Mom on the go! When I’m out and about running errands with my toddler in tow, it’s essential that I remain comfortable. It’s keeps me feeling energized and in a better mood if I’m in a comfy, chic outfit. This type of outfit is my go-to because of how simple it is to put together in a rush and how great you look when you’re wearing it!
Being at the end of my pregnancy has gotten me really excited, but also really nervous. In just a couple on months, I’ll have two children to take care of as well as a husband, a home, and my own body. I struggled a lot with the transition into Motherhood when my first was born, so I’m nervous for what the transition into being a mother of two will bring. All I know is that my husband and I are overjoyed to be able to have these beautiful children come into our lives and we look forward to the challenges that being parents brings! As we get closer and closer to my due date, we get even more happy that our lives have these wonderful blessings in them. Being a Mother is really awesome, and I’m excited to be able to spread my love between two little ones!

Happy Thursday everybody!
Today I’m really excited to share with you a fun, creative post! One of my favorite things to do when I’m planning outfits, creating makeup looks, or creating D.I.Y. art is to pull inspiration from the world around me. It helps me to stay creative and to come up with something totally unique and fun! Today I thought I’d demonstrate how I do this with some fun, artistic bottles made by Coca-Cola! These fun glass bottles are called the Diet Coke “It’s Mine” bottles, and no two bottles are the same! Each bottle features a really cool design, which is the perfect muse for creating fun, colorful outfits! Today I grabbed two of my favorite designed bottles as inspiration for some fun Spring outfits, and I want to share with you exactly how you can gather inspiration of your own when putting together an outfit!
PS: These Diet Coke “It’s Mine” bottles are only available for a limited time, and if you buy 4 of these bottles in branded carriers, you receive a special 10% discount (and this is only offered at Target!).
Outfit #1: Color Pallet Inspiration
When I saw this Diet Coke “It’s Mine” bottle, I was immediately drawn to it because of the colors…which is why I chose to use it as my first outfit’s inspiration. Pulling colors from items that inspire you is probably the easiest way to come up with a fun outfit that is perfectly coordinated! Here are some tips for creating an outfit based on a color:
When using an object’s color for inspiration, pull the colors that are similar. Think of your color wheel when you do this. You want to pick either colors that are close together on the color wheel (creating a monochromatic type look) or colors that are opposite (that are meant to compliment each other).
Try to follow a specific color scheme within your object. Notice how on this bottle there are a bunch of different hues of pink and purple, but also some blues. I chose to just stick with the purple’s just so I made sure I didn’t over-do my outfit. You don’t want to make it too busy!
Limit the amount of colors you chose to use in your outfit. You don’t want to use every single color of an object, because then your outfit will look too busy! Pick 2-3 colors that really stand out to you, and go from there!
Don’t copy the item exactly! Remember this is your inspiration piece, not your copy/paste piece! I was inspired by the hues of purples and pinks, which is why I chose to add a couple of those colors into my outfit. Notice how the colors don’t match exactly with the bottle. Picking similar color schemes is always more fun!
Outfit #2: Using Texture and Patterns as Inspiration
For this outfit, I was inspired by the beautiful swirl pattern on the bottle. I also loved the colors that were used in this artist piece, so I decided to combine the two and come up with a fun, colorful outfit perfect for Spring! Here are some tips when using patterns and textures as inspiration.
When looking at your item, try to find 1-2 patterns that you love, and find coordinating fabrics in your clothing. I decided to choose this sequin skirt as my “swirl” piece because of the pattern of the sequins. Notice how it’s not about color this time, it’s about the pattern!
When using patterns and textures, try not to match the colors exactly. That will be overkill when you’re creating your outfit. The key is to draw 1-2 similar colors and 1-2 patterns to work with.
If you are drawing some colors from your inspiration piece, make sure they are complimentary colors. This will help your pattern to pop and allow you to look put together. You don’t want your outfit to look too busy!
If you don’t want to use any of the color from your object, pattern mix until your heart is content! There’s never anything wrong with mixing stripes, plaid, sequins and more! Just make sure the colors of those patterns are fairly similar!
I hope you enjoyed this fun post talking all about creating outfits from the world around you! Make sure you pick up your special 4 packs of Diet Coke “It’s Mine Bottles” at Target for that special 10% discount!
